To be clear: Obama’s not required by law to identify contributions of less than $200. But given that (a) McCain does it voluntarily, (b) The One claims to be all about a new, transparent politics in Washington, and (c) his campaign is famously powered by small donors, it’s a tad curious that most of the names of people who’ve dropped a little north of $222 million on him in small contributions remain known only to him and his campaign.
Especially when some of the ones who have been identified look like this:
In a letter dated June 25, 2008, the FEC asked the Obama campaign to verify a series of $25 donations from a contributor identified as “Will, Good” from Austin, Texas.
Mr. Good Will listed his employer as “Loving” and his profession as “You.”
A Newsmax analysis of the 1.4 million individual contributions in the latest master file for the Obama campaign discovered 1,000 separate entries for Mr. Good Will, most of them for $25.
In total, Mr. Good Will gave $17,375.
Following this and subsequent FEC requests, campaign records show that 330 contributions from Mr. Good Will were credited back to a credit card. But the most recent report, filed on Sept. 20, showed a net cumulative balance of $8,950 — still well over the $4,600 limit.
The fact that the campaign itself is reporting a cumulative balance in excess of the legal limit means they know, or should know, that they’ve got more money on hand than they’re supposed to have. And like McCarthy says, it’s only because “Good Will” was so stupid as to use the same phony identity for all of his donations that he crossed the $200 reporting threshold in the first place. A smart, determined fraudster would have used multiple identities.
But the fun doesn’t end there. Remember that phone bank in Gaza? Combine it with the Economist feature I linked yesterday on the “world electoral vote” and consider the implications:
Until recently, the Obama Web site allowed a contributor to select the country where he resided from the entire membership of the United Nations, including such friendly places as North Korea and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Unlike McCain’s or Sen. Hillary Clinton’s online donation pages, the Obama site did not ask for proof of citizenship until just recently. Clinton’s presidential campaign required U.S. citizens living abroad to actually fax a copy of their passport before a donation would be accepted.
With such lax vetting of foreign contributions, the Obama campaign may have indirectly contributed to questionable fundraising by foreigners.
Why would The One be so negligent about his standards knowing that, at the very least, it creates an appearance of impropriety? Because, dummy: He knows big media’s not going to press him on it. And with that, I’ll keep my promise and send you off to dive in.

Oh horrors……The problem with this thesis is that nobody cares what goes on before an election as far as money is concerned or anything else for that matter. What matters is the policies of the government we elect and in our time those policies have as much to do with the candidate’s party as the candidate. The GOP has become a right wing, semi-facisiti organization loaded down with the weight of trans-national corporations and oil mafia godfathers. The GOP has advanced itself by Bible banging, flag flutter and waving the bloody shirt. The republican party is for the most part anti-science and scorns any idea that 21st century technology is what we need to keep the lights on and the wheels on the road. Instead the GOP has an oil and coal only mantra that ignores future requirements in favor of today’s profits. The beat goes on. In contrast the democrats have finally woken up to the fact that the world has changed and if we don’t change the policies of the last eight years,sooner than later we’re not going to be a first world country. Obama’s party represents these changes, and McCain’s party represents the same old, same old. It’s not the ‘money’, it’s the policies…..stay focused on the real questions!

I'm 5'11 (not too tall, not too short)
I'm athletically built (yes, abs too)
I'm very good looking in the face (often told I should get an agent and be in movies).
I'm sweet…have a good humor…I'm kind…I've been through a lot of life-pain, so I'm wise and (believe it or not), rather humble.
I'm no dummy, but could be classified as quite sharp in many areas.
I'm very talented (I pick up most anything).
I'm mostly calm…etc, etc…

The only thing is that I'm 28 and a student, with no job yet, but what should that matter in the realm of free things, such as attraction and love…

Anyway, no matter what I do, I'm alone: 1) bars & clubs 2) Dating sites 3) Myspace, etc…

And when someone likes me and I can see, It takes me a while…they usually stop liking me, like this last one in my school…

A friend recently got me interested in genealogy so I've been gathering ancestors in my spare time.

I the software Family Tree for Dummies at Pic N Save. It was cheap and I figured all I needed was a program to help me keep track of everyone.

Well, after I've gotten into it some, I'm wondering if it would be wise to get better software.

Any recommendations on software from genealogy gurus?

Here are some of my thoughts:
I want the usage of this tree to be flexible. I want to be able to share it with people (who may not have or want to buy junk software) and I want to be able to put it online. I'm not planning either of these, but I'd hate to go to all the work and then find out the work I did was useless.

The software I'm using is pretty junkie. It gets confused about dates and its difficult to input approximate dates. Not a huge deal… but I'm just wondering about different things, before I put any more work into it.
Any software recommendations? Don't need a lot of features, but my primary concern is that the work I put into it can be used and be flexible in the future.
Lol… breedmate. Well, all my dogs get married before they breed. And all the puppies use the last name of their sire.

I like Roots Magic. It is $29 US. I'm a computer programmer by trade; RM is well-crafted. It is also user-friendly. My son picked up the basics in 20 minutes, with minimal instruction from me. You don't have to be a programmer to use it.

It's a little like typefaces. If you notice the font a book is printed in, they picked the wrong one; you should just read the book, and the font should be transparent. If you were a typesetter or font designer, you'd notice the fonts books and newspapers used. RM is like that; usually I just use it, without noticing how well it is made. It is transparent and intuitive, which lets me concentrate on research, not figuring out how to use the tools.

Sometimes, like when I import a GEDCOM someone who uses FTM sent me, and find 12 different ways to spell the same place, I notice how good RM really is.

Family Tree Maker is the market leader. They have different packages; some come with a year's subscription to Ancestry.com. It was $39 for the bare bones the last time I looked. I had FTM 5.0 and FOW 6.0, RM's precoursor, at the same time 8 or 10 years ago. Liked FOW better, never looked back.

You might be able to find previous versions of either in the discount bin somewhere.

PAF, from the Mormons, is free.

All have their fans. You can Google:

All three are flexible. All three have thousands of users. None of them get dates confused. Not all programs will accept BC or "x gen bef y" dates.

Any genealogy program worthy of the name will let you export a GEDCOM, which is a text file with key words.

All of the big sites – Roots Web, GenCircles, Genes Reunited, Kindred Konnecions – let you upload GEDCOM files.

FTM and RM let you create a web site based on your data, which you then upload to your personal site, if you want. You get MUCH more visibility via a large public site, as listed above. That i turn means your long lost 4th cousin, the one who inherited GGG grandpa's Civil War sword and the letters he wrote home from Gettysburg, has a better chance of finding you.

RM lets you burn your data and a read-only version of itself onto CDs. Your friends and relatives can then view your data any way they want, with portraits, if you have any. They can't add to it or correct it, but they can print off reports and change from pedigree view to family group sheets and so on.

RM lets you download a trial version for free. Their page doesn't say how long it lasts; 14 days or 30.

Wendy brings up a good point. Whatever program you pick, back up your data religiously; once a month or every time you do a lot of research. The ideal would be to back it to thumb drive or a CD, twice, then put the second copy somewhere that it would be safe if your computer was stolen or your house burned down. Take it to work, if you work outside of the home. Leave it with a neighbor. Send it to those relatives.

Some people have lost 5 – 10 years worth of work when their hard drives died.

I met a guy online that seemed like a good catch. Great job, 32, only one child and never been married. He was crazy about me for the first few months…but was always mad because I would not have sex with him. I thought it was strange because he told me that he had not been with a woman in over 9 months, (later confessed to 6 months). Why would he be pressuring me for sex? One friend of mine told me that it is because he loves me…love at first sight type of thing. The man still will not let me see his ID to even verify his name though. He later raped me… pushed himself in me and had an orgasm… no motion or anything involved. I thought it was strange… never knew a guy could do that. He felt bad about it… told me he would marry me… so I forgave him…I called it sex not rape… and we continued to date. But sex started to be a normal thing… he would not come to see me if I would not do it… now we argue alot…I do not feel like he cares about me, he tells me that I can have what ever I want but he does not give it to me after I ask ($)… He only tells me that he loves me when I have had enough fighting and leave him…He also has a dating profile that he refused to close… now he agrees to close it but has yet to do it. Get some counseling for your low self esteem and put distance between you and male relationship until you mature and see yourself as God sees you. Otherwise you will fall into the same cycle again and be further away from what God wants for you.

i’ve been told i give really good dating advice but im not that experienced, i’ve had 1 bf, but when im around a guy i like all of my knowledge goes bye bye… how do i tell him i like him?

in a coversation we were having in science, with him me and 2 other girls, but he looked me right in the eyes and seemed to be really interested in my opinion and he’d smile when i laughed he has amazing blue eyes and it was hard to keep eye contact with him when he’d look me in the eyes, when he’d break the eye contact he’d look down. then he would glance at me when the other girls were talking to see my expression he didnt seem as focused on them as he was on me, and one of the other girls in our convo., he used to flirt with her untill i started acting like it was bugging me, i was trying to hide it, but im not very good at it… but he hasnt flirted with her since…

Who is this Jordan guy?

I've got 15 years of trickiness and creativity under my belt. And… according to a questionnaire which I took while sitting in a class I didn't belong in, I have a 75% social desirability. Maybe I should focus my educational aspirations on a psych major so I can sit around all day and answer true / false tests to find out how desirable I am?

What's there to say? Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Literally. I'm that back country hiker who didn't bother to heed the warning signs that read Park Closed: Hungry Wild Ass-Bears Seen Mauling Hikers. I went ahead and ignored the signs, ran into a beastly bear, fell into a Batman lair-like cave as I tried to outrun the bastard, and got myself wedged between hell and a giant boulder. So I have a little extra baggage I have to carry around. The emotional kind. Who doesn't have any of that? The question is where's the lost & found when you need it?

I want to meet someone to pick the bones out of my fish. I hate getting pricked by those damn things during dinner. I also want to meet someone who can tell the difference between Haribo and Black Forest gummi bears based on taste alone. They're not the same dammit!

My tween daughter is very tech savvy and up to date. She spends time online chatting with her friends, watches dvd's, creative on the computer, etc.

I would love to get her a cool electronic gift without connecting her to other people all the time…you know she's got the cell phone already AND the house phone…now, she wants a T-Mobile Sidekick or IPHONE. I'd rather not get her either since her current phone is thrown somewhere in her room and the very expensive camera she got sits in her bathroom vanity, without protection from falls, damage, etc. Currently she uses my laptop for stuff…I was thinking about getting her a computer: my "mommy wants to get her everything" side says "go ahead, get it." my "mommy's no dummy" side, says "hell to the naw"…

So, any ideas?

A small electronic item I would recommend is the Nintendo DS – my daughter uses hers all the time. What is really nice is she can use it at home and she can also use it if we travel. Animal Crosing and MySims are two popular games that go with it as are any of the Mario games.
If she is into music I would suggest an IPOD if she doesn't already have one. My daughter has a cell phone and her own computer but she definitely loves her IPOD.. of course to download songs from itunes she'll end up using your computer. Just be forewarned if she gets her own PC she'll be spending even more time on the computer and want instant messaging and myspace because that is all I hear about these days. It's hard – you want you kids to have stuff but they also need to appreciate what they have. Buy her the IPOD and make her responsible for paying for the songs perhaps??
